Reports say a juror could not continue the deliberation after finding out that his brother sustained a heart attack. Therefore, an alternate juror was needed to be added to the jury to obtain 12 people. An article on the Fox News states that the jury deliberated whether Saipov will receive the death penalty or be sentenced to life in prison with maximum security for the New York truck attack. However, the alternate juror required the results of the previous deliberation to be discarded. Eventually, after 5 hours, the jury told Judge Vernon S.
