The U.S. federal government’s main strategy to reduce the financial burden on students who are starting college is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Eligible students can apply for the FAFSA for student aid like grants, loans, and work-study.

An article on MARCA states that most of the states and universities provide non-federal student aid using the information gathered from the FAFSA forms. However, if a state determines that a student’s parent or caregiver is able to provide money every month, they will less likely offer the student a financial aid. This is because the FAFSA wants to determine if a student’s family contributes to the student’s finances.

Dates of 2023 FAFSA Deadline

According to an article on Coursera, the Federal Student Aid Office of the Department of Education has established a 2023 FAFSA deadline for eligible students. On the website of the official government, it is stated that to be eligible for the 2023-24 FAFSA, an applicant must submit the FAFSA form between October 1, 2022 and June 30, 2024. Furthermore, any corrections in the FAFSA forms must be submitted on September 14, 2024.

However, several states and colleges have earlier deadlines compared to the federal deadline. These deadlines are when applying for state and institutional financial aid. Because of these differences, the students are advised to submit the FAFSA forms as soon as possible on or after October 1. This is to guarantee that the financial aid will not be missed.
