Gov. Greg Abbott on “School Choice” Policy

Education is the topmost priority of the state lawmaker in Texas. This time, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott made his support clear on the “school choice” policy on Tuesday and also said that the state needs to create an education savings account.

The “school choice policy will allow parents to use state funds and send their children to private schools instead of public schools. Gov. Abbott said, “That will give all parents the ability to choose the best education option for their child. The bottom line is this: This is really about freedom.”

According to a published article in Texas Tribune, Gov. Greg Abbott released his support on this specific part of the bull as the Texas legislatures are preparing to take on public issues. The top lawmakers in the state said that enacting the “school choice” is their top priority in tackling issues in education.

What is “School Choice”?

“School choice” is the term used to describe the rights of parents in choosing where they will send their children either in public or private schools. Specifically, parents will receive vouchers from the state as a form of state-sponsored scholarships to send their children to private schools.

Texas has already practiced “school choice” but it is only limited to sending children to free charter schools or transfer schools within or outside of their district.

Furthermore, Gov. Greg Abbott emphasized, “No one knows what is better for a child’s education than their parents. Parents deserve the freedom to choose the education that is best for their child.”
