End of SNAP Benefits

Millions of American families continue to rely on SNAP benefits to purchase nutritious food and meet their daily needs. The dependence on SNAP benefits or Food Stamps increased during the wake of the pandemic and the increasing inflation rate.

However, this benefit is about to expire or end soon and there is no assurance if the U.S. Department of Agriculture has plans to continue it. There are no updates as well if state officials have plans to fund the SNAP Benefits or the Food Stamps.

Food Banks Now Prepare for the End of SNAP Benefits

In a published article in CBS News, local food banks are now preparing for the end of SNAP benefits. They could be stressed to the limit in the next few months because it is expected that there will be more customers of food banks and pantries.

In the same source of report, the food stamp is expected to end this February and millions of families are expected to rely on food banks as a lifeline to keep their families fed. Meanwhile, the increasing inflation rate is also a major contributor that Americans will look for local food banks.

Westmoreland Food Bank CEO Jennifer Miller said, “Back in the 2000s, fundraising equated to 10 percent of our budget. It’s now more than 60 to 70 percent of our budget. We are already receiving phone calls from people who are concerned about what this looks like for March.”
