Man Charged With Second-Degree Murder After Shooting Teenager Who Allegedly Broke Into Cars In Washington DC

Jason Lewis was charged with second-degree murder after shooting a teenager, Karon Blake, in Washington DC. Lewis reportedly shot Blake after the teenager allegedly broke into the cars parked in the streets.

Affidavits stated that on January 7, Jason Lewis, 41, was lying on his bed when he heard noises thinking someone was trying to break into his house. Upon coming downstairs, Lewis reportedly confronted teenagers who were allegedly breaking into cars that were parked in the streets. Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee stated that a video showed Lewis was asking for the teenagers to approach him.

According to Norman, at around 4 a.m., Lewis shot one of the teenagers, Karon Blake, 13, in the 1000 block of Quincy Street Northeast. Affidavits also stated that after Lewis fired a shot, Blake was yelling “I’m a kid, I’m a kid!” before he had collapsed to the ground. When authorities arrived at the crime scene, Lewis was reportedly performing CPR on Blake. Unfortunately, Blake died at the hospital he was transported to.

Lewis Turns Himself In

According to Peterson, Blake had suffered several gunshot wounds to his body. Lewis reportedly informed the authorities of the location of the firearm used in the shooting. A black Smith & Wesson .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol was obtained from the crime scene. On January 31, Lewis turned himself in to face a charge of second-degree murder while armed. On the same day, Lewis prepared to appear at D.C. Superior Court. However, Lee Smith, Lewis’s attorney insisted that Lewis has committed no crime. On the contrary, Blake’s family protested and demanded justice for Lewis to be immediately arrested.
