New York restaurateur Stratis Morfogen warns the restaurant industry about the gas stove ban proposed by the government. According to him, if the proposal goes into effect, it will destroy the industry.
According to the commissioner of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Richard Trumka Jr., the proposal on banning gas stoves is being considered because of issues concerning harmful inside pollutants like carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide being released into the air. The Institute for Policy Integrity disclosed a report that discovered gas stoves spread dangerous pollutants that often exceed the levels approved by the World Health Organization and the Environmental Protection Agency. These pollutants also reportedly cause childhood asthma which can upset brain development. In addition, New York City Governor Kathy Hochul has proposed a ban on natural gas heating and appliances in new buildings as well, as reported by Carnahan.READ ALSO: Biden’s New Student Loan Repayment Proposal – Here’s What You Need To Know!
The Restaurant Industry Will Be Destroyed
According to Carnahan, New York restaurateur Stratis Morfogen argued that these people do not understand the restaurant industry. According to him, using electric stoves instead of gas stoves will lose 40% of the industry’s productivity. This is because, with electric stoves, the restaurants’ bills will increase six times higher. Morfogen suggested that the government must acquire a hood system that works, a stronger filtration system, and train staff on how to maintain those systems instead. Aside from the restaurant industry, the proposal may also impair real estate development, says Morfogen. This is because shopping malls, casinos, residential towers, office buildings, airports, and the like depend on the restaurant industry for content.
