52,000 U.S. Army Officers Rise in Ranks Amid COVID Chaos

A recent report of American Military News, tells us that about 52,000 U.S. Army officers got promotions in the past few years due to a temporary policy during COVID-19. This policy lets soldiers get promoted without going to leadership training. Over 10,000 officers haven’t done this training yet. The Army says promotions should be taken back if training isn’t done within a year they’re hesitant to do that. The policy started in 2021 because of COVID-19 got extended in 2022 and 2023 and now it’s going on till 2024. National Guard soldiers who juggle civilian life as they face challenges as they don’t get some military benefits.S ergeant Major of the Army Michael Weimer said they want to make sure soldiers’ careers aren’t hurt by things they can’t control. The Army’s rules from 2016 say officers need specific training for promotions with this policy they can get promoted before doing the training. Some people are questioning if the training is even important if promotions happen before it.

Army Raises Questions by Promoting Staff Sergeants Regardless of Leadership Training

The Army is promoting sergeants to staff sergeants if they work as military recruiters no matter if they did the leadership training or not. This move is making some people wonder if the usual promotion rules are still working well during the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
