VITA Program Offers Free Tax Preparation Assistance to Qualifying Families
Cynthia Hernandez from Lancaster, California, has been busy with her tax filing as the April 15 deadline approaches. Though filing taxes can be stressful, she is looking forward to getting a tax refund that could provide her with financial relief. Cynthia is taking part in a new program called “Claim Your Cash,” which helps low-income families in Los Angeles County get their tax credits.
When families meet with county staff for social services, they are asked if they have filed their taxes or claimed certain tax credits they might qualify for. If they meet the program’s income requirements, they are referred to free tax preparation services through the VITA program. Cynthia learned about this service through a family referral and appreciates the extra help.
