Sen. Rachel May announced on Thursday that she passed legislation that will add $100 to the Supplemental Assistance Nutrition Program (SNAP) benefits.
$100 Increase in SNAP Benefits
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits have helped millions of Americans across the country meet their daily needs and buy nutritious foods. However, many are asking to increase the amount of benefits due to the rising inflation rate.
In a published article in CNY CENTRAL, Sen. Rachel May announced on Thursday that she passed legislation to increase the amount of SNAP in New York to $100 per month. She also added that dozens of lawmakers support the legislation and encourage Gov. Kathy Hochul to support a SNAP increase.

State Lawmakers Support the Legislation
According to a published article in Blogging Big Blue, dozens of lawmakers support the legislation and signed a letter encouraging Gov. Kathy Hochul to support a SNAP increase. It has been found that the SNAP benefits helped the recipients to:
- Reduced poverty
- Improved health outcomes
- Boosted local economies
Furthermore, the plan to add $100 in SNAP benefits will help prevent the federal reductions from resulting in greater food insecurity in New York. This is especially critical in Central New York, which is a region with the highest percentage of SNAP participation in the nation.
