Because of the rising inflation, several states across the U.S. have decided to provide some form of financial assistance like stimulus payments or relief checks to their residents. Some states have already issued these types of payments, however, there are a few that are still introducing proposals for these payments.

An article on the Bridge Michigan says that the state’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer has revealed a similar proposal. This proposal involved relief checks worth $180 to be issued to the residents of Michigan as part of the plan to reduce their expenses. This initiative will be made possible because of the state’s huge budget surplus with billions of dollars unspent. Through this excess money, the state will be able to support its residents with financial assistance.

Proposal Still Unofficial

According to Barrera, Whitmer’s proposal states that the relief checks may be claimed by any resident of Michigan if they have filed their tax returns for the last fiscal year. Couples who have filed jointly are expected to receive one check only. There is no information yet on whether the number of dependents will affect the funds.

In addition, because the proposal is not official yet, there is still no exact date as to when the relief checks will be issued. However, it is expected that the first batch of relief checks will be issued in the spring. The tax season in the U.S. has already started on January 23 and will end on April 18. To date, this is the only information available about the proposal since it is still being introduced in Michigan.
