Wells Fargo owes its customers of up to $24,125 each for the settlement over illegal activities made by the company. These illegal activities involve erroneous charges and unauthorized closures and vehicle repossessions.
Financial services company Wells Fargo has resolved to settle the lawsuit filed against them by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). A lawsuit was filed against Wells Fargo for the illegal activities the company has allegedly made. The illegal activities involve erroneous charges and interest rates on unauthorized closures and vehicle repossessions. The CFPB has discovered the illegal activities made by Wells Fargo in their regular bank accounts and mortgage and vehicle loans.According to Campisi, Wells Fargo has resolved to pay more than 16 million of its customers with more than $2 billion. These customers were those who were affected by the violations between 2021 and 2022. The payment is only a part of the $3.7 billion agreed settlement. The remaining money will be used as a relief fund for the affected customers.

Who is eligible for these payments?
According to Heilman, the amount of payments is based on how a customer was affected by the illegal activities. The customers whose bank accounts were erroneously charged with fees can receive $100 or more. On the other hand, those whose vehicles were repossessed without authorization can receive at least $4,000 or more. Lastly, almost 3,200 customers who were unable to change their mortgage payments to prevent foreclosure can receive an average of $24,125 each.
