Residents of Washington will be receiving up to $2,200 in monthly payments for 24 months. These monthly payments are due to the state’s Evergreen Basic Income Pilot program.
As stated in an article in House Democrats, the House Bill 1045 was introduced by State Representative Liz Berry of Washington. This House Bill is expected to establish an Evergreen Basic Income Pilot program. This program in turn will help residents of Washington with their basic needs, especially with rent, housing, food, and healthcare.The House Bill will be providing around 7,500 eligible residents with monthly payments for 24 months. If the number of applicants exceeds 7,500, recipients will be chosen randomly. The payments amount to 100% of the fair market rent of a unit with two bedrooms. Depending on the area where the recipient lives, the payments will range between $892 to $2,199.

Who is eligible for these monthly payments?
According to Russo, there are some requirements that must be met by applicants to be eligible. Applicants must earn an income not more than 200% of the federal poverty level. In 2022, this amounts to $27,180 for single taxpayers and $55,500 for a household of four. Applicants must also be at least 18 years or older. Lastly, applicants must be at least one of the following: homeless, pregnant, immigrant, asylee, refugee, disabled, a parent with a child younger than 5, leaving a foster care, juvenile justice, or criminal justice system, or leaving a situation due to domestic violence. However, the House Bill is not yet guaranteed to be authorized. The House Committee is yet to take action for the House Bill.
