According to 23WIFR, Rockford Police have made significant headway in their investigation into a fatal shooting near the Roosevelt Community Education Center last week. The incident which occurred on June 26 around 6 p.m. in the 1000 block of Haskell Avenue resulted in the tragic death of 29-year-old Marquell Reddic. Responding officers found Reddic critically injured on the sidewalk from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to a local hospital Reddic succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival prompting a swift and intensive police response.

Authorities have identified Eric Townsend Sr. 51 and Timothy Chatman 42 as suspects in the shooting and have charged both with first-degree murder. While Townsend Sr. has been apprehended and is in police custody Chatman remains at large. The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the shooting is ongoing with detectives diligently piecing together the sequence of events that led to Reddic’s tragic death. The Rockford Police Department has not yet disclosed any motives or details regarding the relationship between the suspects and the victim leaving the community seeking answers amidst the shock and grief.
