Conclusion Drawn: In Rye’s Death, Tovar Found Guilty of Manslaughter But Not of Burglary
The Chaos Night: Screaming, strangling, and shooting all occur in this horrific homicide case
As stated in the report in True Crime Daily, Miles Tovar was declared guilty by the Colorado Attorney’s Office for the Fifth District of first-degree criminal trespass and reckless manslaughter about Brendan Rye’s death. On two counts of first-degree criminal trespass and burglary, the jury found Tovar not guilty. November 6, 2019, was the event date. Rye and Tovar shared a condominium when Rye was found lifeless. Once Rye was discovered in the restroom, police officers declared him dead. The results of the investigations showed that Tovar had gone back to the owner’s house several times when very drunk following a dinner invitation from the owner of the apartment they were remodeling as subcontractors, requiring Rye to drive him back. There were loud “pops” during the night, and Tovar was shot in the leg while Rye was strangled by hand; as a result, his death was declared a homicide.
Following his extradition, Tovar will be sentenced for manslaughter and trespassing in Rye’s death
Tovar turned himself into the U.S. after a protracted judicial process. Marshals Service in Connecticut after Breckenridge Police identified him as the main suspect and he was extradited to Colorado. At the May 9 sentencing, Tovar may receive a sentence of one to three years for criminal trespassing and two to six years for reckless manslaughter. After more than four years of waiting for justice, Heidi McCollum, the 5th Judicial District Attorney for Colorado, expressed hope that the verdict will help Rye’s family and friends move past their ordeal.
