A sad and tragic incident unfolded in Edna High School, Texas, as 16-year-old Lizbeth Medina lost her life. When the teen failed to arrive at a Christmas parade where she was supposed to perform with her cheer squad, authorities said. Lizbeth was found dead in her family’s apartment, and this heartbreaking event sparked a four-day investigation.

The devastating mother’s discovery

Lizbeth and her mother, Jacqueline Medina, had moved to Edna just a year ago. The devastating discovery of Jacqueline when she found her daughter in the bathtub at home, breathless. She expressed her anguish, saying, “Someone dared to go in and just rip my daughter away from me; it just kills me.” Jacqueline emphasized that Lizbeth was an amazing girl who would never harm anyone.

The devastated mother, Jacqueline, shared her pain with KHOU-TV, expressing, “I lost it; she was my world; everything I do is for her.” She pleaded for answers, questioning why someone would harm her amazing little girl who wouldn’t hurt anyone.

Rafael Govea Romero was arrested

Authorities revealed that Lizbeth had been stabbed, adding to the sorrow of the community. The police, along with the Texas Rangers, arrested a 23-year-old man named Rafael Govea Romero, charging him with capital murder. He was apprehended at his home in Schulenburg, Texas, an hour away from Edna, and the police also seized a vehicle and other items.

Romero, described as undocumented by the Edna police, was taken into custody and is currently held at the Jackson County Jail with a $2 million bond. The community mourns the loss of a young life and seeks answers as they grapple with the tragedy.

Edna residents said they were relieved to hear about the arrest, but they’re not ready to rest easy.

My hat goes off to Edna PD, the Texas Rangers, and everybody that was involved,” Edna resident Roy Castro said. “We know there’s been an arrest made, but, of course, we have to get the story behind it.”

We have a great police department here,” Edna resident Jacklyn Law said.

Neighbors said the crime has left an impact on the community.

It’s kind of taken a toll on the whole community,” Castro said.

The residents said the tight-knit community is finding a sense of comfort knowing the suspect is in custody.

I’m glad they caught somebody,” Edna resident Larry Guerrero said. “It’s awesome. Good work.
