It has come to the radar of the Roanoke City Police Department that a resident has recently experienced a lost pet scam to such an extent the scammer tried to imitate a Roanoke officer to solicit money from the victim.

Roanoke City Police Department Alarms The People Regarding Lost Pet Scam

A report from WDBJ 7 stated that a scammer orchestrated a lost pet scam and took advantage of an individual longing for his lost pet. In the lost pet scam report, the scammer boldly copy-cat a police officer and said that the pet owner could only retrieve his pet if he would pay him a certain amount of money.

The lost pet scam then prompted the Roanake authority to alarm the people to stay vigilant and highlight two important notions, one, they will not never ask for transaction money, and two, they will identify themselves as animal wardens with the Roanoke department.

Roanoke City Police Department Ask The Public To Seek Help About Lost Pet Scam

As a caution to the lost pet scam, the Roanoke officials cleared out that if just in case the call was really from their animal wardens, they would either try to bring the pet to the owner’s residence or arrange a plan to help the person reclaim the pet at the Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection.

Officials said that this might hopefully serve as a lost pet scam alert, and if you ever encounter a similar situation, they advise you to cut the call and dial the non-emergency dispatch number, (540) 853-2411, to see if it was a call from the RPD Animal Wardens.
