Charged with hate-motivated murder

On Friday, a report from US News said that police detained the adolescent in connection with the death of gay 28-year-old. Authorities did not divulge the defendant’s identity.

During a news conference outside the Brooklyn petrol station where Sibley was killed on July 29, Mayor Eric Adams, a veteran police captain, noted that parents had lost a kid, a child, to what was plainly a hate crime.

The stabbing occurred after a fight between the two groups at one of the gas pumps, where Sibley was dancing with his buddies to a Beyoncé song. Before the altercation turned violent, authorities said Sibley’s group was ridiculed by the other group.

For a few minutes, security camera footage showed the two groups arguing. Both sides had moved away until Sibley and a friend returned quickly and approached one of the young guys who had remained behind recording on his phone.
