1. San Bernardino

One of the most dangerous cities in Califonia is San Bernardino, with a population of 222,101 which has a crime rate 79% higher than the national average. Between 2017 and 2022, violent crimes such as robbery and murder increased by up to 39%. Despite a decrease in property crime since 2017, aggravated assault incidents rose by a staggering 145%, contributing to San Bernardino’s reputation as one of California’s riskier cities.

2. Stockton

Another one of the most dangerous cities in California is located in San Joaquin County, Stockton’s population of 320,804 is accompanied by a crime rate well above the national and state averages. In 2021, its violent crime rate was reported at 12.62 per 1,000 people, with a likelihood of 1 in 79 becoming a victim. The city also experiences a high incidence of property crime, with over 9,000 reported incidents in 2021.

3. Bakersfield

Bakersfield is one of the most dangerous cities in California with a population of approximately 405,000 and boasts a crime rate 94% higher than the national average. While the city witnessed a 30% decrease in homicides in 2022 from 2020, its overall crime rates remain concerning. Gang activity has been a persistent issue contributing to the violence in Bakersfield.

In the year 2022 alone, there were close to 12,500 instances of reported theft and nearly 800 occurrences of violent crime.
