Author Shelby Steele’s $30K Worth of Camera Gear Stolen After Car Break-In in San Francisco

Author Shelby Steele became a victim of a car break-in in San Francisco after his camera gear worth $30,000 was stolen. Reports say Steele and his son Eli were shooting a documentary about the city at that time.

On June 14, at around 11 a.m., conservative author Shelby Steele became a victim of a car break-in and burglary on Hyde and Lombard Streets in the Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco. Reportedly, the father and son had been shooting a documentary about the city at that time.

According to Vacchiano, Shelby Steele’s son posted on Twitter saying he and his father had stepped away only for 10 minutes before their rental car was broken in. On Eli’s estimation, apart from the damage made to the vehicle, $25,000 to $30,000 worth of camera gear had also been lost.

Car Burglary in San Francisco

According to Griffin, Shelby Steele’s son claimed that when he reported the crime to the 911 operators, they had hung up the phone on him. Furthermore, upon arriving at the police station, Eli reportedly encountered more carjacking victims.

Nonetheless, the San Francisco Police Department announced that they are currently investigating the crime. A spokesperson also stated that the officers have already documented the incident. However, to date, no arrests have been made yet as the investigation is still active and ongoing.
