Ora Pescovitz Is An Advocate For Civic Engagement At The University Of Auckland

The University of Oakland President Ola Pescovitz, Michiganian of the Year Award winner leads the university’s civic engagement and civility efforts.

Pescovitz says he doesn’t take Michigan men’s honor personally

Our goal is to be the most civilized and civic campus, not only in Michigan but in the United States. The University of Oakland offers a number of programs to help students explore issues in a civilized way and discuss them, especially with those who do not share their perspectives. “This really reflects the great work that the University of Oakland is doing,” she said.

Holding talks on issues of public importance

The program included forums on current political issues such as abortion and debates between Democratic and Republican state and national political leaders. As president of Oakland University, she is championing the university’s civic engagement and civility initiatives and that is why she has been named a Michiganian of the Year by The Detroit News. Under the auspices of the Center for Civic Engagement, founded by political science professor Dave Dulio Oakland University has hosted numerous programs to help students explore and discuss issues in a way that is civilized, especially with those who don’t hold their same viewpoint.
