11-year-old Aderrien Murry who was shot by a Mississippi police officer is now in the process of recovering. Reports say the officer had shot Murry in the chest upon responding to the boy’s 911 call.

11-year-old Aderrien Murry who was shot in the chest by a Mississippi police officer is now released from the hospital. However, to date, the child will still require counseling due to the trauma he had suffered from the shooting incident.

An article in CNN states that on May 20, Aderrien’s mother, Nakala Murry, asked the child to call 911 after the father of her other children arrived angry at her house. Reportedly, the child told the operator that the man did not have a weapon despite the domestic disturbance.

Upon arriving, Nakala also reiterated to the authorities that the man did not have one. However, the Mississippi police officer allegedly yelled for everyone in the house to step out with their hands up. Aderrien recalled that it was when he came out that he was shot by the officer.

Mississippi Police Shot Aderrien Murry

According to an article in The New York Times, the Mississippi police officer was eventually identified as Sergeant Greg Capers. To date, the shooting incident is being investigated by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. Nonetheless, the Indianola Board of Aldermen voted to put Capers on paid administrative leave during the investigation.

Aderrien’s family, on the contrary, filed a lawsuit in the federal court and sought $5 million. The Murrys claimed negligence, reckless endangerment, excessive force, and civil assault and battery among other charges. However, the mayor of Indianola states that the city currently does not have $5 million in the bank.
