Virginia Teacher Sent Emails Showing Behavioral Problems Of 6-Year-Old Student Who Shot Her

Teacher Abby Zwerner has sent emails that showed behavioral problems of the 6-year-old student who had shot her in Virginia. Zwerner reportedly warned school administrators about the student, but they have not taken any action.

According to Steinbuch, Zwerner’s emails started reporting on October 11, 2022, when the student allegedly flashed a middle finger to a classmate. A month later, on November 11, the student allegedly bumped into his classmate and pushed the latter on the ground. In another email on November 22, Parker suggested to schedule a meeting with the student’s father. The meeting was said to discuss the behavioral problems of the student and establish support for him.

Teacher Zwerner Will Sue

According to Arias, the 9 mm handgun used by the student in the shooting was legally purchased by his mother. The handgun was allegedly secured in the mother’s closet on a shelf above 6 feet high. It reportedly also had a trigger lock that needed a key. The student’s family also reportedly claimed that the boy had an “acute disability”. He was even accompanied by his mother or father to class every day. Reportedly, it was only on the week of the shooting incident that neither of his parents was able to accompany him to class.

Nonetheless, Zwerner’s lawyer, Diane Toscano stated that she had already notified the school board about Zwerner intending to sue the school district. Superintendent George Parker was fired by the school board, while Assistant Principal Ebony Parker had resigned from the school division. The school administrator position was replaced by Karen Lynch, who has worked in Newport News as a principal for 17 years.
