Alex Murdaugh, 54, faced charges for shooting his wife Maggie Murdaugh, 52, and youngest son Paul Murdaugh, 22, to death. The murders reportedly took place in their hunting estate in Islandton, South Carolina on June 7, 2021. Prosecutors claim that the 99 counts of finance-related crimes totaling to around $9 million may have been the motive of Murdaugh for the murders.According to Lopez, on the first week of trial, two witnesses have claimed that Murdaugh was at the crime scene around the time the murders took place. A neighbor and close friend of Murdaugh, Rogan Gibson, went to the stand to be questioned about a 50-second unsent video from Paul’s cellphone. Reportedly, the video was recorded at 8:44 p.m. around the time the murders took place. Another Video as Evidence
Another video taken by Paul using Snapchat has captured Murdaugh wearing a different set of clothes one hour before the murders reportedly took place. In the video footage, Murdaugh was seen in a blue button-down shirt, trousers, and loafers. On the contrary, after the murders, he was seen wearing a white t-shirt and shorts in a police bodycam footage.
According to Sharp, Murdaugh had claimed that he has touched the bloody bodies of Maggie and Paul when attempting to turn them over. However, the claim raised suspicions as several police officers testified that Murdaugh was clean from head to toe when they found him on the night of the murders.
