Snow Preparations, NYC Flash Flood Protocols, and Flood Alerts

A storm system related to fatal Tennessee tornadoes puts New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and southern New England under flood watch until Monday. Long Island may receive 5 inches of rain; others may receive 2–3 inches. Upstate New York snows regularly.

Pack survival gear and avoid needless travel. NYC flash flood regulations include 35-mph winds. Flooding is likely following September’s 5+ inches of rain. New York Governor Kathy Hochul predicts showers and lake-effect snow on Monday. The Catskills downwind of Lake Ontario and Erie, central New York, and the western and southern Adirondacks are anticipated.

The state’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services has 1,500 generators, 500 chainsaws, 1,000 portable heaters, and 350,000 bottles and cans of water for up to a foot of snow south of Buffalo.

Northeast Prepares for Storm

Storm preparations in the Northeast are extensive. The state Department of Transport has 1,600+ snowplows. Flooding prevents emergency vehicles from crossing Quaker Road in Princeton, New Jersey. Cape Cod and surrounding islands may cancel ferries due to 60-mph winds. The storm is expected to pass on Monday, but 13 million coastal people face 50-mph winds.

Winter warnings for 6 million Monday night may bring 10 inches of snow to northern New England. After tornadoes in Tennessee killed six and left hundreds without power, northeast weather worries arose.
