Greenville, SC – Five EF-0 tornadoes were confirmed by the National Weather Service (NWS) following storms that swept through South Carolina on December 29. These tornadoes affected Union County, York County, and Mecklenburg County, with damage surveys completed Tuesday.

According to the NWS, the strongest tornado, rated EF-0, had peak winds of 80 mph and traveled 6.99 miles through the Monarch Mill area. Other tornadoes touched down near Blackstock Monument, West Springs, Dixie, and Bethany, with path lengths ranging from 1.55 to 3.24 miles. Each tornado caused minor damage, but no injuries or fatalities were reported.

The storms began early in the morning, with the first tornado striking at 8:15 a.m. near Blackstock Monument. Survey teams reported maximum path widths of up to 50 yards for the Bethany and Monarch Mill tornadoes. Despite their low rating, EF-0 tornadoes can cause significant localized damage.
