New York, NY – New York residents are preparing for dangerously cold weather on Wednesday, with temperatures staying below freezing across much of the region. Highs are forecasted to hover in the 20s, but brisk northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will drive wind chills down to the teens.

According to the National Weather Service, the cold front is expected to bring the chilliest conditions to areas like Poughkeepsie, White Plains, and Long Island. Wind chill values could make outdoor exposure hazardous without proper protection. The agency urges residents to limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and check on vulnerable individuals.

While the cold weather is typical for January, meteorologists warn that sustained wind chills can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Drivers are advised to watch for icy patches on untreated roads, particularly during early morning commutes.

With the cold expected to persist through midweek, New Yorkers are encouraged to stay informed through local weather updates.
