Paducah, KY – A winter storm is poised to hit western Kentucky on Friday, bringing snow and dangerous cold that could disrupt travel. Snow accumulations between 1 to 4 inches are expected, with higher totals south of the Poplar Bluff to Owensboro line.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, snowfall will likely begin early Friday morning and continue into the evening. Travelers should expect hazardous conditions along major roadways, including U.S. 60 and I-24, as even light snow will stick due to persistent subfreezing temperatures.
Wind chills will plunge to as low as 0 to 15 degrees Tuesday night and remain bitterly cold through Thursday morning. Daytime highs will hover near 31 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday before dropping to 20 degrees Friday night.
Looking ahead, temperatures will remain below normal into next week, with no daily highs above 36 degrees. Despite a brief sunny break on Saturday, the bitter cold will persist.
Residents should take precautions to stay safe, including bundling up, avoiding unnecessary travel, and preparing emergency kits if hitting the road. “While ice is not expected, the cold and snow will make conditions treacherous,” the weather service warned.
