Newport, NC – Eastern North Carolina residents are preparing for a weekend of wintry weather and freezing temperatures. Forecasters warn of a potential snow and ice mix late Friday into Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, light snow or ice accumulations are possible across portions of the region. The precipitation type and amounts remain uncertain, but areas like Greenville, New Bern, and Kinston may see impacts.
Frigid temperatures will continue through Friday, with morning wind chills dipping into the single digits and low teens. Dry weather is expected Friday during the day before the wintry conditions begin overnight.
