Huntsville, AL – Northern Alabama is preparing for a significant winter weather system expected to arrive Friday and persist through the weekend. Snow and a wintry mix could cause travel disruptions, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Huntsville.
The NWS reports that snow will begin early Friday, spreading from west to east. Precipitation will continue throughout the day, transitioning to a wintry mix south of the Tennessee River by Friday evening. Huntsville and surrounding areas have a 45% chance of seeing three or more inches of snow.
Residents are encouraged to stock emergency supplies, check heating systems, and monitor weather updates. The NWS suggests keeping fuel in vehicles and ensuring pets are indoors. Travel impacts are expected Friday evening into Saturday morning as icy conditions develop.
Preparations should begin now, NWS advised, noting the potential for widespread impacts. Local residents should stay informed through weather.gov and local alerts.
