Bourbonnais, IL – A 24-year-old Kankakee man was arrested Monday after allegedly shooting a Bourbonnais teenager in the face during a property dispute.
Police responded to the 1000 block of Stratford Drive East around 5:38 p.m. after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found a 17-year-old male outside an apartment building with gunshot wounds to his face and arm. The teen was transported to Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital before being transferred to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
According to authorities, the incident began with an argument over property not returned to the suspect, Darrid Britton. Police say Britton confronted the teen through a bedroom window, pointed a handgun at him, and fired several shots.
Britton called 911 after the shooting and cooperated with police upon their arrival.
Officers recovered a semi-automatic handgun from his vehicle. Britton was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and discharging a firearm. He is being held at the Jerome Combs Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
The case remains under investigation.
