Lake Charles, LA – A strong coastal system is forecast to bring freezing rain and excessive rainfall to parts of Louisiana starting Wednesday night. The National Weather Service warns that areas along and north of a line from Jasper to Alexandria face the highest chance for frozen precipitation.
According to the National Weather Service, freezing rain may accumulate up to 0.01 inches in some areas, creating hazardous road conditions. Motorists are advised to exercise caution, particularly along I-10 and surrounding roads, where wet conditions may transition to slick surfaces. Additionally, excessive rainfall could lead to localized flash flooding along coastal and low-lying areas, including Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana.
Showers are expected to intensify Thursday afternoon, continuing into the evening, with heavy rainfall likely overnight. The rain chances remain near 100% Thursday night, with totals between 1 and 3 inches expected. Residents are urged to clear drainage areas and remain vigilant in flood-prone neighborhoods.
Temperatures will drop as the system passes, with daytime highs Wednesday near 49°F and evening lows dipping to 32°F. The cold conditions are expected to persist into Friday, accompanied by lingering light showers. Sunshine is forecast to return by Saturday, with highs near 49°F.
