Kankakee, IL – The long-anticipated East Riverwalk project in Kankakee is set to break ground on January 22, 2025, at 4 p.m. City officials announced the event will take place at the project site, and the public is encouraged to attend.
According to The Currents of Kankakee, the East Riverwalk will transform a key area along the Kankakee River into a vibrant community space. The project includes green spaces, walking trails, and improved waterfront access. Renderings also reveal plans for recreational areas, an amphitheater, and scenic overlooks.
The development is expected to serve as a catalyst for revitalizing downtown Kankakee while offering residents and visitors a modern, family-friendly destination. Construction is set to begin soon after the ceremony, with completion projected by late 2025.
