Tallahassee, FL – Residents across the Florida Big Bend woke up to freezing temperatures Tuesday, with wind chills dipping into the 20s. The National Weather Service forecasts colder nights and frosty conditions through midweek, followed by gradual warming by Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, overnight lows on Tuesday will plummet to 28°F, with frost expected after midnight. Wednesday morning will start in the upper 20s before climbing to a sunny high of 54°F. The cold snap will continue Wednesday night with temperatures dipping again to 30°F.

Drivers should exercise caution, especially on bridges and overpasses, as slick spots may form during the freezing nights. Pedestrians are advised to dress in layers and cover exposed skin to prevent frostbite.

The extended forecast indicates some relief later this week. Thursday will bring mostly sunny skies and highs near 51°F, with lows staying above freezing at 36°F. By Friday, scattered showers are likely, and highs will reach 58°F, offering a brief reprieve before colder air returns over the weekend.

Residents should take precautions to protect plants, pets, and outdoor pipes from freezing temperatures. Local shelters are open for those in need of a warm place to stay.
