Memphis, TN – A significant winter storm is forecast to sweep across the Mid-South on Friday, potentially dropping up to 4 inches of snow along key routes, including the I-40 and I-55 corridors. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that the storm may disrupt travel and create dangerous driving conditions.

According to the NWS Memphis office, confidence is rising for snowfall accumulations of 2 to 4 inches Friday, with higher probabilities closer to Memphis and surrounding counties. Light snow may begin overnight Thursday and intensify through Friday afternoon, making it crucial for drivers to plan ahead. Temperatures will hover near freezing, creating a risk of slick roads and reduced visibility.

Residents are urged to monitor forecasts, prepare emergency kits, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm conditions. Local officials suggest stocking up on supplies, including food, water, and flashlights, in case of power outages.

The extended forecast indicates mostly clear skies Wednesday, with highs near 33°F and lows in the low 20s. Thursday will see increasing clouds ahead of the storm, with snow likely beginning late at night. Friday’s high will reach only 32°F before dropping to 23°F overnight, with lingering snow showers possible.

Saturday and Sunday will bring partly sunny skies and calmer weather, with highs in the mid-30s and lows in the 20s. Drivers should remain cautious throughout the weekend as untreated roads may remain icy.
