Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan residents should prepare for hazardous travel conditions as lake-effect snow showers strengthen across the region starting Tuesday afternoon. Areas near Grand Traverse Bay, including Leelanau and Grand Traverse counties, are expected to receive 2 to 3 inches of snow, with localized totals reaching 4 inches by Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Gaylord, the snow will impact evening and early morning commutes, with snow-covered roads and reduced visibility making travel dangerous. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, especially in areas prone to heavy snow bands. Temperatures are forecast to drop into the single digits overnight, with wind chill values potentially dipping below zero.
The snow is expected to ease by midday Wednesday, giving way to partly sunny skies. However, the region will remain in the grip of a cold snap, with high temperatures only reaching 10°F and wind chills hovering around -5°F.
Looking ahead, Thursday will bring some relief with mostly sunny skies and a high near 20°F, though snow showers are likely to return Friday afternoon and linger into the weekend. Drivers and outdoor enthusiasts are encouraged to stay updated on weather advisories and take appropriate precautions.
Stay informed by checking local forecasts regularly and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak snow periods.
