Chicago, IL – Residents across Illinois and Northwest Indiana should prepare for colder temperatures and scattered snow this week, with lake effect snow expected Wednesday evening. Temperatures will remain in the low 20s, while overnight lows dip into the teens, creating hazardous conditions for travel.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago, a lake effect snow event is likely Wednesday afternoon into the evening for areas near Northwest Indiana. Winds could lead to localized snowfall accumulation, reducing visibility and making roads slick. Commuters on major roadways such as I-90 and I-80/94 should use caution and plan for possible delays.

The five-day forecast shows continued cold across the region. Tuesday will see highs near 26°F with partly sunny skies. Wednesday stays cold with highs around 24°F, while lake effect snow threatens evening travel. Thursday offers brief relief with sunny skies and highs near 27°F. Snow returns Friday with a 50% chance during the afternoon and evening, accompanied by highs of 27°F. Saturday remains mostly sunny with temperatures inching above freezing.

The National Weather Service advises dressing in layers, limiting outdoor exposure, and preparing vehicles with emergency supplies for winter driving. Those in lake effect zones are encouraged to monitor updates closely.
