New York Weather Advisory: Lake Effect Snow Hits Syracuse Area Through Wednesday, Impacting Travel on I-90

Binghamton, NY – Lake effect snow is expected to bring up to 6 inches of accumulation across parts of upstate New York through Wednesday, potentially impacting travel on I-90. Areas south of Syracuse, including Cayuga, Onondaga, Madison, and Cortland counties, are under a winter weather advisory, with the heaviest snowfall forecast for Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory is in effect through Wednesday morning as multiple rounds of snow showers sweep across the region. The heaviest bands are expected to develop overnight into early Wednesday, delivering 4-6 inches in the hardest-hit areas. Lighter accumulations of 1-3 inches are anticipated for surrounding areas, including parts of central New York and northeastern Pennsylvania.

Drivers on I-90 and local roads should exercise caution as visibility may drop quickly during snow bursts. The New York Department of Transportation urges travelers to allow extra time, reduce speeds, and stay updated on conditions.

Temperatures will remain below freezing through the week, with highs near 18°F on Wednesday and 22°F on Thursday. Wind chills could make it feel even colder, with values near 0°F overnight. Snow showers are likely to continue sporadically into Thursday before partly sunny skies return on Friday.
