Albany, NY – High winds and freezing temperatures will continue to sweep across the Albany region on Wednesday, creating hazardous conditions for residents and travelers alike. With gusts reaching up to 40 mph, the “feels-like” temperatures will drop to dangerous levels, potentially as low as -5°F in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, these icy conditions are not severe enough to trigger a Cold Advisory but still pose significant risks to those outdoors without proper attire. Experts urge residents to bundle up in layers, protect exposed skin, and limit time outside when possible.
Wednesday’s forecast calls for daytime highs near 20°F, though brisk winds will keep the apparent temperatures in the single digits. By Wednesday night, temperatures will dip further, with wind chills falling near -10°F. Travelers, particularly along I-87 and other major roadways, should exercise caution as blustery winds can create difficult driving conditions.
The cold snap will persist into Thursday, with cloudy skies and highs near 23°F expected. By Friday, some relief is anticipated as sunny skies return and temperatures rise into the upper 20s. Looking ahead, the weekend will remain dry but cold, with daytime highs in the low 30s and overnight lows near 20°F.
Residents are reminded to check on vulnerable neighbors, keep pets indoors, and ensure heating systems are in working order. For the latest updates, visit weather.gov or monitor local alerts.
