Florida Panhandle Residents Brace for Freeze Warning Through Tuesday Morning

Tallahassee, FL – A Freeze Warning and Cold Weather Advisory remain in effect for parts of the Florida Panhandle, including South Walton, Coastal Bay, and Franklin counties. Residents should prepare for sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees and wind chills dropping to 20 degrees. The warning is in place until 9 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), these conditions can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Frost and freeze could also damage crops, outdoor plants, and unprotected plumbing. Residents are urged to wear layered clothing and limit outdoor exposure.

Officials recommend securing a warm, dry shelter for outdoor pets and checking on vulnerable family members and neighbors. Outdoor plumbing should be insulated, and tender plants covered or moved indoors. NWS warns against using generators or grills indoors to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 49 degrees, with frost likely developing overnight as temperatures dip to 28 degrees. Looking ahead, Wednesday and Thursday will see daytime highs in the low 50s, with mostly sunny skies, before a chance of showers returns Friday.

Drivers should use caution Tuesday morning, as icy patches may develop on less-traveled roads. Prepare now by winterizing vehicles and keeping an emergency kit handy.
