Atlanta, GA – North Georgia residents should prepare for possible icy roads Friday through Saturday as freezing rain moves into the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City warns that temperatures near the Interstate 20 corridor could create hazardous travel conditions.

According to the NWS, areas north of I-20 face the highest risk of ice accumulation, with probabilities exceeding 40%. Central Georgia, while less likely, could also see icy patches if temperatures drop lower than expected. Accumulations of 0.10 inches of ice or more are possible, making roadways slick and dangerous.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates closely, especially those commuting on major highways. Preparations, including limiting unnecessary travel, are strongly encouraged to ensure safety.

The NWS also emphasizes that colder-than-forecast temperatures could expand the area impacted by freezing rain, potentially affecting more regions south of I-20. Drivers should remain cautious and plan for delays.
