New York, NY – Drivers across the state are urged to exercise caution tonight as freezing temperatures create slippery conditions on untreated roads. While snowfall tapered off earlier today, icy patches remain on highways and residential streets, particularly in areas with minimal road treatment.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), temperatures will remain below freezing through Tuesday morning, leaving surfaces slick. Wind gusts up to 40 mph on Tuesday could further reduce visibility, especially along busy thoroughfares like the Henry Hudson Parkway and I-95. Commuters should plan extra travel time and consider public transportation when possible.
This evening’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a low of 23 degrees. Winds from the northwest will reach speeds of 20 mph, adding to the chill. Tuesday brings sunny but blustery conditions with a high of 33 degrees, although wind chill values could dip as low as 10 degrees.
The extended outlook shows more cold weather ahead. Wednesday and Thursday will remain sunny, with daytime highs near 31 degrees but nighttime lows plunging into the 20s. By Friday, a slight warm-up is expected, with temperatures reaching 38 degrees.
Residents are reminded to stay cautious on icy walkways and avoid parking near snowbanks, as gusts may blow loose snow into roadways. If you must drive, ensure your vehicle is equipped with proper tires and allow for slower braking.
