Baltimore, MD – A significant winter storm continues to impact central Maryland, northern Virginia, and the Washington D.C. area. Heavy snowfall is expected to persist through early Tuesday morning, with total accumulations of 6 to 10 inches forecasted. Some localized areas could see up to 12 inches.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday. The heaviest snowfall is anticipated late Monday evening, with rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Primary roads, including the I-95 corridor, are expected to become snow-covered and potentially impassable overnight. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for icy conditions, especially on untreated surfaces.
The storm will also bring gusty winds, reducing visibility and creating hazardous conditions for drivers. Temperatures will drop to a low near 19°F Monday night, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Crews are actively treating major roadways, but officials recommend delaying travel until conditions improve Tuesday morning.
Looking ahead, skies are expected to clear Tuesday, with sunshine and a high near 33°F. However, icy patches will likely linger through midweek as nighttime temperatures dip to the teens. The region can expect mostly sunny conditions Wednesday and Thursday, with highs in the low 30s.
Residents should monitor local forecasts and ensure they have emergency supplies, including flashlights, water, and blankets, in case of power outages.
