Tampa, FL – A strong cold front is moving across the Florida peninsula today, bringing storms and a risk of severe weather. Residents from Tampa Bay to the surrounding Gulf Coast counties should prepare for isolated thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds and even tornadoes this afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service, the storms are expected to intensify between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., primarily affecting areas along the I-75 corridor and northward. These storms could bring gusts over 40 mph and localized heavy rainfall. After the storms pass, significantly cooler and drier air will sweep into the region, with overnight lows dipping into the 40s by Tuesday.
A high rip current warning is also in effect for coastal areas, including Pinellas, Manatee, and Sarasota counties, through Wednesday morning. Beachgoers are advised to avoid swimming in rough surf conditions. Officials recommend only swimming near lifeguarded areas and caution anyone caught in a rip current to remain calm and signal for help.
Looking ahead, Tuesday will be sunny but breezy, with highs around 56 degrees and winds from the northwest. Overnight temperatures will drop to 41 degrees, marking a sharp contrast from recent warm conditions. The chill will persist through Thursday, with daytime highs near 60 degrees and clear skies dominating the forecast.
Residents are urged to stay updated on storm developments and heed safety advisories for rip currents and severe weather.
