Albany, NY – Residents across upstate New York are digging out after a significant lake effect snowstorm left over 24 inches in parts of the region, with freezing temperatures expected throughout the week. The National Weather Service confirmed the heaviest snowfall totals near Schroon Lake and Ticonderoga, where accumulations surpassed two feet.
According to the National Weather Service Albany, the snow event has ended, but an arctic air mass will keep temperatures dangerously low this week. Wind chills Tuesday morning are projected to drop into the single digits, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. Those venturing outside are urged to bundle up and limit exposure to prevent frostbite.
The extended forecast reveals partly sunny skies on Tuesday with a high near 25°F, followed by overnight lows of 15°F. Winds will remain gusty into Wednesday, increasing to speeds of up to 29 mph. Thursday will bring another blustery day with a high near 21°F before conditions improve slightly on Friday with mostly sunny skies and a high near 28°F.
Travelers are advised to exercise caution as icy roadways remain a concern on major routes like I-87 and Route 20. Crews continue working to clear snow, but slick spots are possible due to refreezing overnight.
