Indianapolis, IN – A winter storm continues to sweep through southeast Indiana, northern Kentucky, and southwest Ohio, bringing heavy snow, gusty winds, and dangerous road conditions. The National Weather Service has extended a winter storm warning for the region until midnight Monday.
According to forecasters, an additional 1–2 inches of snow is expected in most areas, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph. Blowing snow is reducing visibility to under a quarter mile in some locations, creating treacherous conditions for evening commuters. Highways such as I-74, I-71, I-75, and US-50 are expected to see significant slowdowns due to icy patches and drifting snow.
In southeast Indiana, cities such as Franklin, Dearborn, and Switzerland counties are reporting slick roadways and reduced visibility. Northern Kentucky areas, including Boone, Grant, and Pendleton counties, are similarly affected, with state officials urging residents to delay all non-essential travel. Motorists traveling through Ohio, including Dayton, Cincinnati, and Columbus, are advised to check OHGo.com for live traffic updates before venturing out.
Travelers are reminded to carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, blankets, and water, in their vehicles in case of delays or accidents. Those who must drive should reduce speed, increase following distance, and use extreme caution, especially on untreated or secondary roads.
Looking ahead, conditions are expected to improve by early Tuesday as snow tapers off. However, frigid temperatures will persist, with lows dipping into the teens overnight. Drivers should watch for lingering icy spots through the morning commute. The remainder of the week will bring a mix of cold sunshine and occasional flurries, with highs in the mid-30s by Thursday.
