Jacksonville, FL – A freeze warning is in place for parts of Florida and Georgia, with temperatures expected to drop as low as 30°F early Tuesday. Residents are urged to take immediate precautions to protect vulnerable populations, plants, and pets.
According to the National Weather Service, the freeze warning will remain active from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday. Areas across northern Florida, including Jacksonville, Gainesville, and Lake City, as well as southeastern Georgia cities like Waycross and Brunswick, are expected to experience sub-freezing temperatures. Wind chills could make it feel as cold as 20°F in some areas.
The advisory warns of hypothermia and frostbite risks for those exposed to the cold for extended periods. Young children, older adults, and the homeless are particularly vulnerable. Residents are advised to bundle up in layers, avoid outdoor exposure, and check on neighbors.
Precautions include:
• Bringing pets indoors.
• Covering or bringing in sensitive plants.
• Letting faucets drip to prevent pipe freezing.
• Using space heaters safely to avoid fire hazards.
Tuesday will remain cold throughout the morning, but temperatures are expected to rise to the mid-40s by the afternoon. The five-day forecast shows a gradual warming trend, with highs in the 50s by Thursday. However, another cold front is expected over the weekend, which could bring a return of freezing temperatures.
Travelers should use caution on bridges and elevated roadways, which may experience slick conditions during the freeze. Stay updated with local forecasts and advisories for further weather developments.
