Burlington, VT – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for parts of northern New York and Vermont, forecasting up to 8 inches of snow and strong winds. The advisory will take effect from 1 a.m. Tuesday through 7 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, affected areas in New York include Southeastern St. Lawrence and Western Clinton counties, particularly around South Colton and Lyon Mountain. Vermont’s impacted regions include Western Franklin, Eastern Chittenden, and Lamoille counties. Higher elevations, such as Mount Mansfield, may receive over a foot of snow.
Forecasters warn that travel could be treacherous during this period. Icy roads and reduced visibility are likely, particularly during Tuesday’s morning and evening commutes. Winds may reach up to 35 mph, potentially causing blowing snow and slippery conditions.
Drivers are urged to reduce speed and allow extra travel time. Pedestrians should be cautious on icy sidewalks and driveways. Road condition updates are available at NewEngland511.org for Vermont and 511NY.org for New York.
