Jefferson City, MO – A powerful winter storm swept across Missouri Sunday, stranding thousands of drivers and creating treacherous road conditions. Icy highways and near-zero visibility caused numerous crashes and traffic jams.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to 2,084 service calls as of Sunday evening. They assisted 1,043 stranded motorists and documented 356 crashes statewide. At least 31 people were injured, and one fatality was reported.

Missouri National Guard personnel were deployed to assist law enforcement with rescue operations. Authorities urged drivers to stay home as conditions worsened Sunday night, with freezing temperatures and blowing snow making travel nearly impossible.

Interstate closures and stranded semis were reported near major cities, including St. Louis and Kansas City. Residents faced power outages and delays as emergency crews struggled to clear icy roads.

State officials advised drivers to pack emergency supplies and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve. Forecasters predict the storm will ease Monday, but black ice remains a major concern.
