New Mexico Braces for Cold Front: Snow for Albuquerque Region Starting Tuesday

Albuquerque, NM – A powerful winter storm is set to impact New Mexico early this week, bringing freezing temperatures, gusty winds, and light snowfall. Residents should prepare for hazardous driving conditions, especially along I-40 and local roadways beginning Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, temperatures will drop significantly Monday night as a cold front moves into the region. Light snow is expected to begin late Tuesday, with accumulations up to one inch possible in Albuquerque and surrounding areas. Winds will peak Tuesday night, with gusts up to 35 mph creating wind chills as low as 10 degrees.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution on I-40, as icy patches and reduced visibility are anticipated. Residents should secure loose outdoor items and cover exposed pipes to prevent freezing. Temperatures will remain below normal through midweek, with a high of just 37 degrees forecast for Wednesday.

Looking ahead, conditions will gradually improve on Thursday, with sunny skies and a high of 44 degrees. By Friday, temperatures will rise to the mid-40s, though overnight lows will remain in the teens.

The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor updates and take precautions as the system develops. Check road conditions before travel and dress warmly if heading outdoors.
