Cleveland, OH – Parts of Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania experienced heavy snowfall from January 1-5, with some areas recording over 30 inches. The lake effect snowstorm left its mark, particularly in Ashtabula County, Ohio, and Erie County, Pennsylvania.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, Pierpont, OH, saw 22 inches, while Edinboro, PA, received 29.5 inches. Snowfall amounts of 10-20 inches were widespread across the region, particularly in the primary snowbelt areas near Lake Erie.
Trained spotters reported 19.6 inches in Welshfield, OH, and 29.3 inches in Wesleyville, PA. These totals reflect significant challenges for residents, as roads, businesses, and schools were impacted by the storm. Crews worked around the clock to clear roadways, but secondary streets and rural areas remained treacherous.
With more snow in the forecast, officials urged caution, especially for drivers. Residents are encouraged to stock up on supplies and stay informed about changing conditions.
